CG100 PROG III Mercedes-Benz 48V lithium battery Repair Guide

CG100 PROG III V6.5.4.0 added 2015 onwards Mercedes-Benz 48V lithium battery W167/ W203/ W205/ W222 repairing function. Check the step-by-step guide to repair the battery.

What is Mercedes-Benz 48V lithium battery?

This kind of lithium battery is mainly used in Mercedes-Benz models after 2015, such as 48V light-hybrid models with chassis such as W167, W205, W213, and W222.

By using a 48-volt electrical system in new Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the car can be powered solely on the electrical system battery instead of using the drivetrain batteries. In fact, these drivetrain batteries can be removed altogether, making the vehicle safer overall because there aren’t dangerous amounts of electricity traveling through the car.

What symptoms will appear on the vehicle?

When the vehicle is parked for a long time (that means we have not driven it for a long time) or there is a collision accident, the battery will be forced to enter the protection mode, neither discharging nor charging, and the vehicle does not start.

The Instrument cluster message 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) in yellow or red, and prompts: 48V vehicle power system failure, please refer to the user manual.

What are the common fault codes?

Due to different reasons, the fault codes reported by the vehicle will also be different. We have summarized the common fault codes and their analysis.

B183349: There is an internal electrical fault

B183371: Actuator is locked

B183384: There is a signal below the allowed limit

B183319: The battery of the 48V on-board electrical system has a malfunction. The actuator is blocked.

One or two error codes above may occur at the same time, but not all.

The main fault code is B183371 or B183319.

What are the possible causes?

Collision accidents, battery drain, electrical short circuit etc., will cause the chip data on the battery management system (BMS) to be locked.

How to resolve the battery fault code?

Replace the battery or modify chip data by CG100, then charge the battery to standard voltage.

Kindly notice:

Before battery repairing, check and confirm the vehicle is equipped with M256 or M264 engine computer.

Different engines have different data modification approaches.

How to repair Mercedes-Benz 48V lithium battery by CG100?

1.Remove and disassemble the battery to find out the IC chip 8 foot 95M01 (same as 5M1W3), it controls the operation of the entire battery.

Use a blower gun and tweezer to take out the chip

Solder it to BDM4 adapter

2.Run CG100 software to write new bin file to battery

Select Mercedes>> 48V lithium battery>> W167/W205/W213/W222>> 2015-95M01

Follow the wiring diagram on the software to solder IC chip to BDM4 adapter and connect with CG100 programmer

Then read and save data

Send the original data to CG engineer and you will receive a modified bin file soon.

Write the new bin file to the chip

Install battery back to the vehicle and charge it to standard voltage.

Done!
