CGDI K2 V5.8.0 Update: added ID modification function for VW 5C 5D keys

Today, we’re diving into the latest firmware update for the CGDI K2, a handheld powerhouse that continues to prove its worth in the field.

As of April 16, Version 5.8.0 is officially rolling out, bringing much-anticipated support for encrypted chips and specialized Volkswagen functions. Here is everything you need to know about what’s under the hood of this update.

1. Expanded Encryption Support: NCF29A1 & More

The headline feature of Version 5.8.0 is the breakthrough in reading data from NCF29A1 encrypted keys. These chips are becoming increasingly common, and having the ability to pull data from them directly via the CGDI K2 significantly streamlines the cloning and programming workflow.

But it doesn’t stop there. The update also extends its “read” capabilities to a wider family of NCF chips, including:

  • NCF2951

  • NCF2953

  • NCF295E

  • NCF2971

For technicians working on modern transponder systems, this expanded coverage means fewer “locked” doors and more successful jobs.

2. Volkswagen OEM Key Customization

If you specialize in VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) vehicles, this update has a specific treat for you. CGDI has added an ID modification function for VW 5C and 5D OEM keys.

Being able to modify the ID on original equipment keys provides a level of flexibility that was previously difficult to achieve without expensive, stationary equipment. Now, you can handle these specific VW requirements right from your handheld K2 device.
