Using a diagnostic tool as a J2534 Pass-Thru interface can be useful when you want to run PC-based OEM or compatible diagnostic software. With MUCAR 892BT Pro and MUCAR GVCI, the setup involves installing the J2534 driver, connecting the VCI to a Windows laptop, and selecting the correct interface in your diagnostic software.
Here is the complete setup using FORScan as an example.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- MUCAR 892BT Pro
- MUCAR GVCI connector
- Included USB-to-USB Type-C cable
- Windows laptop
- Compatible diagnostic software
- J2534 driver
Step 1: Get the J2534 Driver
Start by visiting the official MUCAR website [https://mucarus.com/] and opening Support > Software Download.

Download the latest J2534 driver. The version used in the example is V4.9, but it is better to check for a newer version before installing.
Run the setup file. If the computer already has an older J2534 Plus installation, remove it when prompted and then run the installer again.
Follow the installation wizard by clicking Next and Install, then select Finish once the setup is complete.

Step 2: Make Sure the GVCI Is Recognized
Connect MUCAR GVCI to the laptop with the supplied USB cable.
The green LED should indicate that the GVCI is connected.

Next, open the J2534 application. Check that the connection method is USB Serial and verify the Driver DLL and VCI firmware versions.

If either component needs an update, update it before moving on.
A Useful Troubleshooting Feature
There is also a logging option in the J2534 application.
If you run into communication problems, enabling the log function can help record diagnostic data generated during the session. The saved log files can then be shared with customer support for further investigation.
If everything is working normally and you do not need logs, the function can be disabled.
Step 3: Connect the VCI to the Vehicle
Now connect the GVCI to the vehicle’s OBD port and turn the ignition on.

One thing worth noting is that J2534 Plus does not need to stay open during Pass-Thru diagnostics. Once the VCI has been detected correctly, you can close the application or leave it running.
Step 4: Tell FORScan Which Interface to Use
Launch FORScan on the laptop.
Open its connection or adapter settings and look for the J2534 device selection. Choose J2534Plus.

Then go back to the vehicle interface and click Connect to Vehicle.
Keep the ignition switched on while the software establishes communication.
Step 5: Start the Vehicle Scan
Once connected, FORScan can communicate with the vehicle modules through MUCAR GVCI.

You can scan the available control modules and check for diagnostic trouble codes.
If you have already saved a vehicle profile, loading it can also save some setup time.

Step 6: Monitor Live Parameters
Need to check what the vehicle is doing in real time?
Open the Live Data section in FORScan and select the parameters you want to monitor.
You can add or remove data items depending on what you are testing. Click Start, and the selected parameters will be displayed in real time.
This is particularly useful when you need to observe vehicle data while tracking down a fault.
Step 7: Run Tests and Finish the Session
Depending on the vehicle and the functions supported by the diagnostic software, you may also be able to perform additional tests through the J2534 connection.

When the diagnostic work is finished, return to the vehicle interface and click Disconnect.
