Step 1: Protocol Selection & Identification
Launch FLEX software and verify that you are running version 8.0 or newer.
Search for MG1CS201 or MG1CS024 in the protocol lookup bar.
Select the “(LOCKED)” protocol variant corresponding to your target ECU:
- MG1CS201 (LOCKED)for B48 engines
- MG1CS024 (LOCKED)for B58 engines
Select Boot Mode first. Direct Bench mode reading is unavailable until the ECU undergoes the initial Boot unlock sequence.
Step 2: Hardware Preparation & Wiring Setup
Access the Manual tab to review the exact wiring diagram for your engine variant.
Connect standard Bench power supplies and the two CAN lines as specified.
Carefully remove only the top back cover of the ECU.
Critical Hardware Modification: Locate the board-level SMD resistor indicated in the diagram for your specific board layout (B48 vs. B58 differ in resistor placement and E1 pads). Remove this resistor before proceeding.
Solder the single E1 wire directly to the designated solder point on the circuit board.
Connect the custom FLEX harness (or individual lead wires) to Port E according to the pinout configuration (e.g., pins 15, 28). Route the consolidated lead through the E1 wire to the board.
Step 3: Data Backup, Unlock, and Bench Conversion
Click Connect in the software interface.
Perform a complete Full Backup of the original ECU memory (or back up the Internal Flash separately) to secure recovery data.

Once unlocked, disconnect the Boot harness, re-solder the previously removed SMD resistor, and close the ECU casing.
