Great news for automotive locksmiths! You can copy and clone smart keys for 2018 and newer Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) vehicles equipped with NXP NCF29Ax chips using either KEYDIY KD-X4 Key Programmer (coming soon) or CGDI K2 smart key tool. Both tools allow you to bypass expensive dealer programming and risky module disassembly.

Option 1: KEYDIY KD-X4 Cloning Process

KD-X4 method is highly favored for its offline stability and “code tracking” error elimination.

Step-by-Step Programming Guide:

  1. Key Disassembly: Take apart the original vehicle key to expose the PCB.
  2. App Navigation: Open the KD App on your device and navigate to:

Land Rover Smart Key Synchronization -> Land Rover -> Select by Type -> Disassemble to Copy Key -> Copy Smart Key.

  1. Pinout Wiring: Follow the on-screen wiring diagram in the app.

Note: You can choose to solder connection wires directly to the key’s PCB, OR desolder the NXP chip and solder it directly onto KD 13# NCF29Ax adapter.

  1. Data Acquisition: Read and save the internal chip data from the original key.
  2. Data Writing: Connect your new replacement key to the system. Write the saved original chip data directly onto the new key to finish.

Option 2: CGDI K2 Cloning Process

CGDI K2 key programmer stands out for its high-accuracy cloning and built-in Key ID modification tools.

Step-by-Step Programming Guide:

  • Step 1: Check the Original Key

Insert the original key into CGDI K2 to read its chip type, ID, and lock status.

Then, disassemble the key shell to expose the green circuit board.

  • Step 2: Get the Wiring Diagram

In CGDI K2 app, head to the Land Rover Smart Key Cloning option to view the wiring diagram

  • Step 3: Connect and Read the MCU

Solder CGDI K2 Key Unlock Renew Cable to the original board.


Enter the MCU Programmer function, select NCF29A4 (350728 byte) Locked, read the original key’s internal data, and save the file.

  • Step 4: Program the New Key

Desolder the wires from the original key and solder them onto your blank replacement key. Upload the saved data file and click write. (Use the “Modify Key ID” feature if you need to align it with the original key’s configuration).


  • Step 5: Verify the Duplicate

Run a quick read check on your newly copied key to ensure it is ready for the road!
