OBDSTAR will release a major upgrade- Mercedes-Benz FBS3/FBS4 TCM OBD Virginization for X300 Classic G3 Full Version/X300 Classic G3 with ECU Flasher activation and DC706 ECU Tool in March 2026.
Supported Functions:
- Virginization (Module Reset)
- Personalization (Data Transfer)
- VIN Writing
…
Background:
When replacing a used Mercedes-Benz Transmission Control Unit (TCU), its internal immobilizer data must be completely erased prior to installation. This process, known as virginization, is essential. Only after this step can the module be either programmed online via the dealer-level tool or have data transferred from the original unit through personalization.
- The Challenge with Traditional Methods:
Currently, the standard approach for FBS4 (VGS4-0-NAG2) 7-speed TCMs involves destructive, invasive techniques such as cutting into the casing or direct soldering to components.
These procedures are technically complex and carry a significant risk of permanently damaging the module.
They require a highly skilled technician with steady hands.
A single mistake during the process can lead to irreversible hardware failure, resulting in costly replacement.
- The Advantages of the New OBD Virginization Solution:
With this innovative approach, there is no cutting and no soldering required.
Using either OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) or BENCH mode, technicians can restore used FBS3 (including VGS2 / VGS3-NAG2) and FBS4 (VGS4-0-NAG2) TCMs to their factory-original “virgin” state.
Once the original vehicle ECU data has been read and personalization is completed, no further online programming is needed.
Simply install the module into the vehicle and start the engine immediately.
This streamlined workflow dramatically increases workshop efficiency while completely eliminating the physical risks associated with invasive methods.
Note: Software updates and specific model coverage may vary depending on your product configuration.
